Yard work dispute leads to jail, deputies say

An El Dorado County man ended up in jail after an argument during yard work went too far, deputies said.

On May 21, deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responded to the 1600 block of Swansboro Road in Mosquito at around 4:47 p.m. There they found John Dillon Buffer, 46, who allegedly had gotten into a shouting match with his neighbor, according to a report.

The two men were doing yard work when Buffer began shouting at the neighbor, saying he was going to beat up the neighbor.

As the two exchanged words, Buffer's girlfriend came outside and tried to restrain her man, telling him, "It's not worth it, honey," deputies said.

The neighbor went inside his house and called the police. He said he was afraid for his life and that he'd been having problems with Buffer in the past, according to the report.

Deputies questioned Buffer, who initially said the dispute started when the neighbor insulted him, but later Buffer admitted he may have started the argument, according to the report.

Buffer was transported to El Dorado County Jail on charges of making criminal threats. In the car, he allegedly told deputies "I know I have a big mouth. It is always getting me into trouble," the report said
