Amador County rancher and historian Carolyn Fregulia will speak on her new book, "Italians in the Gold Country," at 10:30 a.m. April 5 at the Murer House Learning Center, 1125 Joe Murer Court, Folsom. The event is being hosted by the Murer House Foundation, a nonprofit group dedicated to enhancing Folsom's Italian heritage.

Airport security officers around the nation have been alerted by federal officials to look out for terrorists practicing to carry explosive components onto aircraft, based on four curious seizures at airports since last September. The unclassified alert was distributed on July 20 by the Transportation Security Administration to federal air marshals, its own transportation security officers and other law enforcement agencies.
