The 21-year-old woman had been under water for about a minute, and was conscious after being pulled out by friends, said Pioneer Fire Chief Bob Gill. The woman had trauma to her chest, difficulty breathing and possible injuries to her arm and wrist. “She was in pretty rough shape when we got there,” Gill said. He said that alcohol may have been involved. “People have to know that alcohol and cold river water do not mix,” he said.

DESPITE LIFESAVING HEROICS, PIONEER FIRE FACES LAYOFFS AND INCREASED RESPONSE TIMES -- Pioneer Fire Protection District, including Chief Bob Gill and volunteer firefighter Phil Dayton were first on the scene when a kayaker was rescued early Friday morning after becoming separated from his friends the night before.
LOS GATOS MAYOR INJURED BREAKING UP PIT BULL ATTACK -- In January, an El Dorado County Supervisor Ray Nutting climbed up a 75 foot tree to save a kitten. Now, Los Gatos Mayor Joe Pirzynski has thrown his hat into the ring for the most heroic animal rescue of the year by a public official.
More than a dozen Search and Rescue members arrived and formed a command post near the river and Slug Gulch and Rocky Bar roads. The injured man was eventually air-lifted up by the helicopter and was transferred to nearby Pioneer Park, where medics were on hand to provide medical assistance. El Dorado County sheriff’s Lt. Bryan Golmitz said the kayaker suffered an injury to his shoulder.

She played her junior and senior years at Ponderosa-Shingle Springs and received the coach’s award in 2010. A resident of El Dorado Hills, she provides the Lady Oaks with a strong source of height while bringing the potential for effective leadership as well.
Pioneer Fire May Cease to Exist or Drastically Reduce Fire Protection Abilities -- The PFPD’s board of directors is considering its options to maintain the fire district’s service levels when the county’s supplemental funding runs out in June, 2012. That money, which was reduced from $257,813 last year to $178,590 this year, represents approximately one quarter of the district’s budget. That funding ends June 30, 2012. This could mean the loss of Advanced Life Support service, fewer firefighters, increased response times, the permanent closure of the Willow Fire Station 31 on Grizzly Flat Road, and other service reductions.

District II Supervisor Ray Nutting will be hosting a Town Hall meeting on Redistricting -- "Your District II Supervisor Ray Nutting will be hosting a Town Hall meeting on 4/28/2011, as an initial discussion on Redistricting and Reapportionment of our County's population based upon the results of Census 2010. District II boundaries will be hugely affected because of the redistribution of population to each district. To meet this mandate, District II could face losing all or part of Pollock Pines to another district.
BOS takes EDAC's course to Gen. Plan Update -- EDAC, and its Regulatory Reform Sub Committee, at the direction of the Boards, has spent the better part of the past 2 years reviewing County land use regulations to identify and recommend reform that would improve the regulatory processes. On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisor supported EDAC’s request to consider a new approach for processing the Targeted General Plan Amendment, Zoning Ordinance Update, and the Land Development Manual. The process presented by EDAC provides a unified approach for the review and final adoption of these documents, ensuring no one document contradicts or obstructs the other in supporting General Plan goals. The Board directed Staff and EDAC to return on July 25, 2011 with drafts of the targeted General Plan Amendment, Zoning Ordinance and Land Development Manual for their consideration.
Rainbow Bridge, Riley Street segment to reopen this evening -- The Rainbow Bridge and Riley Street from Natoma Street to Folsom-Auburn Road have been closed since Sunday. Construction crews are working 24 hours a day, according to the city of Folsom. The roadway at the intersection of Riley and Sutter streets will be replaced and new granite sidewalks will be installed.
