City loses 10 part-timers -- The already reduced crew at Placerville City Hall took another hit as a change in Public Employees Retirement law went into effect on Jan.1.  Going into effect on Jan. 1, was a clarification of the PERS law limiting the number of years that a retired annuitant could work part time at a former job to one year. “This affects 10 retired annuitants who continue to offer their services part time,”  said City Manager Cleve Morris

The California Supreme Court took action which has the effect of abolishing all of the Redevelopment agencies in California -- Proponents of RDAs took gamble by challenging state legislation modifying RDAs. The gamble backfired.  The Court’s decision is the worst case scenario for RDAs – the Court ruled that the bill dissolving RDAs was a valid exercise of the Legislature’s authority, but agreed with the RDAs that the “exemption from dissolution” option violated Proposition 22.  The Court also held that the two companion bills were severable from each other. That decision spells the agencies' demise.  Placerville City Councilwoman Wendy Mattson writes, "this is a tremendous blow to a city ... We will have to get creative and be diligent in order to assure we have the necessary funding to keep our City financially sound"
