In El Dorado County Less Education Spending Equals Higher Test Scores -- spending fell 9 percent from 2008 to 2010. But test scores rose dramatically. The proportion of students in grades two through seven testing proficient or above in English rose from 63 percent to 68 percent; those at or above proficient in math shot from 65 percent to 72 percent.

More than a dozen Search and Rescue members arrived and formed a command post near the river and Slug Gulch and Rocky Bar roads. The injured man was eventually air-lifted up by the helicopter and was transferred to nearby Pioneer Park, where medics were on hand to provide medical assistance. El Dorado County sheriff’s Lt. Bryan Golmitz said the kayaker suffered an injury to his shoulder.
Pioneer Fire May Cease to Exist or Drastically Reduce Fire Protection Abilities -- The PFPD’s board of directors is considering its options to maintain the fire district’s service levels when the county’s supplemental funding runs out in June, 2012. That money, which was reduced from $257,813 last year to $178,590 this year, represents approximately one quarter of the district’s budget. That funding ends June 30, 2012. This could mean the loss of Advanced Life Support service, fewer firefighters, increased response times, the permanent closure of the Willow Fire Station 31 on Grizzly Flat Road, and other service reductions.
