The owner of Boil Line Productions in Lotus, Stanley and his brother Doug are best known as producers and cameramen for the Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch [1]," about crab fishermen in Alaska. As Tafoya collected information from Stanley as part of the program to aid the county in business retention, the two men hatched an idea to employ Stanley's talents to promote El Dorado County.
Now they're going around the county filming segments for a three-minute "sizzle reel," or pilot for what they hope will become a regional TV series spotlighting El Dorado County's various amenities and tourist attractions.
"This is something I've thought about for a long time," said Stanley, who grew up in Rocklin and has been kayaking in El Dorado County since he was a teenager.
He envisions a program similar to San Francisco-based KRON television's "Bay Area Backroads" or PBS' "California's Gold," but with an El Dorado County focus.
Stanley says he enjoys ferreting out local characters and letting them tell their own stories.
"I want to reach out and find local businesses and places people haven't heard of," he said. ... For the pilot, he said, "We wanted to get a random sample (of the county's amenities), so we mapped out possible topics, then looked at the logistics." ... Some funding for the project is available through the Visitor's Authority, but Tafoya said they also seek support from El Dorado County businesses and organizations. READ MORE [2] in the Bee.
Todd Stanley
has been creating and producing television for over thirteen years. He works both for hire and through his production company, Boil Line Productions. He has a wide range of experience in everything from hard news gathering to documentaries and reality programming to music videos and commercials. For the past three years Todd has been an integral part of the creative team that produces Discovery Channel’s highest rated series “Deadliest Catch” . Other recent assignments currently on air include “SOS;Coast Guard” also for the Discovery channel.
Todd is often called on for difficult assignments that require someone with a cinematographer’s eye as well as a producer/director’s ear for story. There are very few “shooters” in the business that can be trusted to produce good non-fiction television and even fewer producers who can be trusted to bring home the killer images needed to make compelling stories come alive. Comfortable behind the eyepiece or working with talent from the director’s chair, Todd can handle both of these tasks.
Specialty cameras and equipment are another area in which Todd sets himself apart from other shooter/producers. During the shooting of “SOS; Coast Guard” Todd improvised and built tiny lipstick cameras and casings that were unobtrusive enough to work on the Coast Guard rescue swimmers. This created a stunning “rescue-eye-view” that was much talked about on the series. Todd’s company, Boil line Productions has an array of cameras in various sizes and formats. Todd and his company can provide a wide range of cameras and equipment for use in almost any shooting situation. While he has long moved on from location sound work Todd is also an experienced soundman which is an excellent troubleshooting skill to have in the field.
Post-production at Boil line Productions is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range Near Placerville in Central California. Boil line has a full-service post-production facility anchored by a real time Final Cut Pro system. A one-stop-shopping company, Todd and Boil line are available to produce, shoot, hire crew and edit on any style or type of television or film shoot.
Todd has shot and produced for Discovery and many other Broadcast and Cable Television Network Clients. ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, Fox Sports Net, Discovery, BET, A&E, TNT, OLN, Travel Channel, TLC, “America’s Most Wanted”, “Good Morning America”, “American Journal”, “Inside Edition”, “Hard Copy”, “A Current Affair”, “Extra”, “Real TV”, and “Livin’ Large”
Todd’s professional background also includes his work as a highly sought after river guide on the Colorado River through Grand Canyon. This gives him a particular sensitivity to working in outdoor, rural or environmentally sensitive locations.
