Created 04/24/2008 - 04:28

The El Dorado Irrigation District favicon [1] Legal and Legislation Standing Committee, which is composed of all five members of the EID Board of Directors, will hold a public workshop regarding water service to the Shingle Springs Rancheria favicon [2] on Monday, April 28 to consider providing water service to the Shingle Springs Rancheria and its planned Red Hawk Casino favicon [3], which otherwise the tribe plans to supply with a stream of deliveries by truck. The county's Local Area Formation Commission favicon [4] in 1989 ruled the water district could only provide residential-use water to the 40 homes on the reservation.

The workshop will address the following two issues:

• Review and discussion of a legal opinion by the United States Department of Interior, Solicitor General’s Office as to the invalidity of the LAFCO conditions limiting water service to the Shingle Springs Ranchcria; and

• The service level and water supply implications of service to the Rancheria absent the LAFCO conditions

This is a public informational workshop. No Board action will be taken. The district will discuss legal issues, such as whether LAFCO's conditions are valid and also whether supplying water to the casino would affect water service to existing customers.  The workshop will commence at 10:30 or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard. A meeting agenda will be posted and a staff report will be distributed to the Committee on Wednesday. April 23 or Thursday, April 24. The Committee’s workshop will take place at the Districts Customer Service Building at 2890 Mosquito Road in Placerville.

The District would appreciate it if the recipients would forward this information to any interested party.
