The El Dorado County Transportation Commission will receive a presentation today on efforts to increase transit ridership and to promote carpools and alternative transportation options. The commission has worked with the 50 Corridor Transportation Management Association to increase membership in the regional commuter club database to develop "vanpools" at local businesses and to create the Smart Routes to School Program for local schools. The panel also will receive the final report on the Placerville Pavement Management System.

The Lake Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club will host the annual Commodores Cup Race starting at noon on Sunday, July 8. This is a mid-distance race, approximately 10 to 15 miles in length, depending on the wind forecast. The start is at the Windjammer YC buoy, about one mile north of the Keys Marina entrance. The California Tahoe Conservancy invites the public to take the time to smell the flowers. Learn to identify wildflowers growing in the Upper Truckee Marsh and learn interesting facts. This is a group effort of all the Meyers Community restaurants and businesses for the community. Look for the red buckets at all Meyers businesses and give generously.

A mobile adoption event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A. Center, 1221 Emerald Bay Road. A variety of shelter cats will be showcased at the Cat-O-Rama. The Lake Tahoe Humane Society Center is near the "Y" behind Snowshoe Thompson's Ski Rental, between D and E streets.

While the El Dorado County Animal Control shelter is being remodeled, the mobile adoption events will make it easier for potential adopters to see available pets. Right now there is a fine selection of cats and kittens.

From 7 to 8 p.m. July 28 people may walk with their dogs in the Canine for a Cure walk. A registration fee of $10 includes a goodie treat bag and a Relay for Life bandanna. The fee provides much-needed funds to help with cancer research.
