The county's development services director will report to the board Tuesday on options for streamlining the building permit process.

The board last week discussed changing a general plan policy that requires any development involving a structure larger than 120 square feet or requiring a grading permit to go through a checklist process to demonstrate that it complies with the general plan.

Board chairwoman Helen Baumann recommended exempting buildings intended for agricultural use, and other board members suggested increasing the threshold for other types of structures as well.

Greg Fuz, development services director, said he would present two options.

One, which could be implemented fairly quickly, would retain the 120-square-foot threshold but simplify the checklist for smaller projects.

The other option, which would take longer to institute, would amend the general plan to raise the threshold.

The board also will review design and construction options for a new animal shelter to serve the western part of the county.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the board meeting room, 330 Fair Lane, Building A, Placerville.
