Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the power of positive thinking. In a nutshell, if you think positive thoughts about things, people, or experiences- they will come to you. It also works with our development and growth as human beings. If you think positively about an experience or skill-set you wish to achieve, opportunities will clearly present themselves to you to obtain that what you wish.
It works like this: Let’s say that you want a new career. You want to change to a certain profession, other than the one you’re in now. If you think about it and “send it out into the universe,” it will come to you easily. The reason I put ’send it out into the universe’ in quotations is because it is the most widely misunderstood part of this concept. Many people only think about what they want, but they miss this crucial step. You need to take action. You need to tell people about your new desire- send it out into the universe, so to speak. When others know about it, they can help you obtain that which you wish to obtain. Maybe someone knows of a job opening. Maybe someone will keep you on track and accountable with your decision. Whatever it may be, it’s a necessary part of this whole process.
My point in writing this blog entry, though, is to point out a fatal flaw I see most people make when first starting to utilize the power of positive thinking. That is:
A DOUBLE NEGATIVE DOES NOT EQUAL A POSITIVE
In the same illustration as above, your goal and intention shouldn’t be “I don’t want this job anymore,” but rather “I want this new career.” You don’t say you ‘I don’t want ___,’ or ‘I want to stop doing ___,’ you say ‘I want ___,’ or ‘I want to start doing ___.’ The fatal flaw is made by focusing your attention on that which you want to change rather on that which you want to achieve. The two are total opposites, they’re like east and west. They couldn’t be more different from eachother. And by focusing on what you want to change amplifies in your mind that there is a problem with what you have. Focusing on what you want gives your mind a definite goal and something to achieve.
Positive thinking is a very powerful tool if used correctly. If you apply the principles to your life, opportunities will present themselves to you beyond your wildest guess. Dream big, and achieve great things. And always keep this warning in mind…
A DOUBLE NEGATIVE DOES NOT EQUAL A POSITIVE
Prosperity to you, my friend. Thank you for reading this blog, and please share this with your friends.
