TRUCKEE, Calif. - The region got off light in Sunday's lightning storms, with 67 strikes in Tahoe National Forest compared to 6,129 in all of California, but they still managed to start five fires - four near Sierraville and Loyalton, and one on the crest north of Squaw Valley.

Called the Tinker Fire because of its proximity to Tinkers Knob between Squaw Valley and Sugar Bowl, crews already have the less-than 1 acre blaze in mop-up, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Up north near Sierraville and Loyalton, the Marten Fire (1 acre), Mill Fire (1 acre) Neck Fire (3 acres) and Bar Fire (1.5 acres) are all either contained or out, according to forest service.

Lassen, Modoc, Shasta and Siskiyou counties have tallied more than 15 lightning-started fires from Sunday's round of storms, the largest of which has consumed about 50 acres near Straylor Lake in Lassen County - no homes or structures have been threatened by the fires.

California faces a $19 billion deficit for the fiscal year that began July 1, and Schwarzenegger is demanding pension, tax and spending reforms in the new budget. He said that if the Legislature doesn't give him a budget that meets his expectations, he won't act on it.

"If I don't get what I need, I will not sign it and it could drag on to the next governor," Schwarzenegger told reporters after meeting with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce on Monday.

Schwarzenegger also told the chamber that he opposes a ballot initiative in November to pass a budget with a simple majority vote of the state Legislature, rather than the current two-thirds majority.

Pennsylvania's tax revenue from commercial casinos approached $1.1 billion in the fiscal year that ended June 30, The Morning Call of Allentown reported Monday. Indiana was second with $878 million and Nevada third with $831 million.
A comparison by the American Gaming Association also showed Pennsylvania ahead in the 2009 calendar year.
Pennsylvania has just nine casinos operating, but its 55 percent tax rate on slot machine gambling more than makes up for it. By comparison, Nevada takes 8 percent from its 260 casinos.
Pennsylvania's casinos began offering table games this month. Those games are being taxed at a rate of 16 percent and are projected to bring the state $320 million more per year.
Gaming Control Board spokesman Richard McGarvey said Pennsylvania's high revenue isn't surprising.
