AAUW Placerville Announces Scholarship Recipients for 2007

Placerville, CA – Since its beginning in 1947, the Placerville branch of AAUW has been providing scholarships to local women seeking assistance in reaching their educational goals. This year, AAUW awarded six $500 scholarships to women in our community. There were 17 applicants.

The following five exceptional high school seniors were selected to receive the AAUW Dorothea Engstrom Scholarship:
Marlana Sheetz, El Dorado High School who plans to study the performing arts at Long Beach State University; Barbara Rios, El Dorado High School who plans to study Physical Therapy at Sacramento State University; Danielle North, Ponderosa High School who plans to study Architectural Drafting at Brigham Young University; Rachael Messina, Union Mine High School who will attend Loyola Marymount University; and Asha Woodall, Golden Sierra High School who hopes to major in history at the University of Chicago.

The winner of the AAUW Elizabeth Groelle Mature Woman Scholarship is Geri Klinger from Cameron Park. The purpose of this scholarship is to offer support for a woman who is returning to school. Ms. Kinger is currently studying psychology as a full-time Chapman University student while working full-time at Marshall Hospital. She hopes to earn a Bachelors degree and continue on for a Masters degree in psychology.

“I wish more women who are returning to school to finish their education would take advantage of this help. It’s an area we’d like to expand in the future,” said Dianne Ettlich, AAUW Scholarship Committee Chair. “We’re proud of all the recipients and congratulate each and every one of them on their achievement.”
